Question Five: What environment/culture encourages collective learning and how is it created and sustained?

 

Groups One through Five

  • People feel needed and valued
    • and that there is a sense of purpose
    • a collective/shared vision
    • people feel safe to share and can make mistakes or not know answers
    • a place to create both answers and questions
  • How is it sustained?
    • Shared responsibility and commitment for learning environment
    • Encouragement to bring gifts to the table; encourage eath other
    • leadership is developed to encourage and support new participation while retaining group knowledge and memory and creating dynamic vision
  • Compelling to your learning style
  • Atmosphere of valuing learning and questioning
  • Acknowledging and honoreing self interest and preservation; balanced with interest of the whole
  • Acknowledge differene in experience, knowledge, etc. (acknowledging power difference); how to equalize the playing field = safe learning environment
  • Documentation and access to this information
  • Regularity is important, security in knowing that this exists
  • Relationship development - keeping the connection; by staff and by members
  • Consistency of effort
  • Check-in about product and outcome in addition to shared learning
  • Humor, laughter
  • Practice what we preach - balance
  • What is collective learning?
  • Physical enviroment - space, lighting, ventilation, etc.
  • Culture of openness, respect and questioning
  • Sustained? - collective learning or community of learners
  • To sustain it, assume responsibility
  • Sustainablity requires continous feedback to make sure we are maintaing appropriate environment and culture
  • Sustainability that continues to shift; new ideas, etc. shifting of culture
  • Replication of "cell splitting" by interest or locale, etc.
